In order to improve my soloing, I purchased a book published by Musician’s Institute titled, “Introduction to Jazz Guitar Soloing: A Comprehensive Improvisation Method“. The approach sends you off into arpeggio memorization land, but not in a bad way. I like structure and it seems that every time arpeggios become the subject of better playing, it’s not very constructive. Usually teachers just throw a bunch of arpeggios and do not show any relation. The method in this book presents the arpeggios that are diatonic to the scale, which is better than just playing key centered.
